A pen can make a difference in Ivory Coast

Africa is the continent targeted this year by the solidarity of the foundation SIVA4KIDS this time through an act of generosity in Ivory Coast via the local youth community CISV Côte d‘Ivoire. The PENS4KIDS project this time reached the local school of Agni-Agni, where the ceremony for the distribution of the pens happened on Tuesday May 26th 2009.
The inspector for primary education, all teachers of that school, the COGES Committee, parents and, above all, children were attending this celebration in the school playground.

The CISV Agnibilekrou delegation led by Mr. Kocou Libera was applauded and the President of the Committee expressed his joy in face of the whole audience.
Naon Katiohora, President of CISV and main contact of our foundation, explained the meaning of this project as beginning of a future cooperation with SIVA4KIDS.

After his speech, Mr. Libera Kocou officially handed the pens to the Inspector for Agnibilekrou, who afterwards distributed those to the students.
The children were very happy to receive these pens and thankful to all contributors.

The parents who joined this ceremony thanked CISV and reasserted their wish to have a safer school for their children. The Agni-Agni school has no protection fences, no restrooms and no clean water.

Also, the Inspector has expressed his concern for the current status of the school and the need to act fast to improve the structure of the building and the related infrastructures.

Students were invited to double their efforts to have a good academic end of the year and attract support for their school.

The international partners of CISV (like our foundation) will consider this project to give this school a new look and make a safer place for the children.

Completed PENS4KIDS projects in Togo, West Africa

It is with great pleasure the board of SIVA4KIDS Foundation informs that we had the opportunity to go to Togo, West-Africa, in February, and the representative, Emmanuel Olivier (MD) of SIVA4KIDS, visited a couple of schools. On top of bringing a useful educational material for all the children at the school through this trip, which gave SIVA4KIDS Foundation the chance to have a closer look at the Togolese educational system and the needs of the educational facilities at the schools. The 1st School called “Les Anges” is a private institution located in Be-Kliklame in Lome.

250 children from 2,5 year till 10 year old are following classes there. The school does not receive any subventions from the state.

The 2nd school is the public school of a village called Lowoe ( near Aveta) at 25 km north of Lome, which was built in 1998.

On 2003 this school became public. Today 200 children from 5 till 12 are going to this school. The school is missing all the primary needs. (no water, no electricity, no toilet).

The director Dogla Koudjo and the teachers are paid by the state. However the school has to pay for the books they are using ( 300 francs-CFA per year).

In both schools the reception was outstanding. Teachers and children were very enthusiastic and they are looking forward to hear from us”.

The Micro-projects PENS4KIDS of S4K Foundation has become a huge success since it was launched last year 2008. Last year update on PENS4KIDS & BOOKS4KIDS through our partner NGO “U CARE” Foundation in Suriname, SIVA4KIDS.org was able to support several hundreds school children at basic schools such as OS Boxel and OS Tout Lui Fout with school materials like PENS and SCHOOL BOOKS (+Encyclopedia in Dutch language). Paramaribo -¬† Stichting U Care heeft vorige week vrijdag, in samenwerking met Stichting Shiva for Kids in Nederland, een schenking gedaan aan OS Boxel.¬† Het ging bij deze om lees- en leerboeken, pennen en encyclopedie√´n. Verder zijn er 4 leertafels geschonken voor de mediatheek van de school. De vertegenwoordiger van Stichting U Care, Reshmi Bihariesingh, zegt in gesprek met DBS dat de schenking als ondersteuning van de kinderen gezien moet worden. Volgens Bihariesingh zijn de encyclopedie√´n geschonken door de familie Poeran, aan wie veel dank verschuldigd is. Het is naar zeggen van de vertegenwoordiger niet de eerste keer dat de school ondersteuning krijgt van de stichting. ‚ÄòWe hebben al eerder geholpen met renovatie van de school. Qua leermiddelen, is dit wel de eerste keer.‚Äô

Het ligt in de lijn der verwachtingen dat de school voor meer ‚Äòverrassingen‚Äô in aanmerking komt. Wat al de geschonken spullen gekost hebben, maakt volgens Bihariesingh niet veel uit en is ook niet van belang. ‚ÄòWe doen het voor de kinderen en geld is momenteel niet aan de orde.‚Äô

Het schoolhoofd van OS Boxel, Rita Soerohardjo – Djosari, zegt bijzonder blij en ingenomen te zijn met de geste. Vooral de tafels en boeken kan ze heel goed gebruiken in de opkomende mediatheek, die nog niet helemaal af is. ‚ÄòHet voldoet nog niet aan de eisen waaraan een mediatheek moet voldoen.‚Äô Zo moet de ruimte nog voorzien worden van airconditioning en moeten computers aangeschaft worden. Volgens het schoolhoofd worden de kinderen op haar school gestimuleerd om boeken te lezen. De school telt momenteel 130 leerlingen.

The inauguration report of the vocational computer trainning centre which is known as Project PC4KIDS¬†Kotapuli is now available. A few weeks after the succesful Pilot Project PC4KIDS was started we can finally¬†update you all who stood behind this very inspiring adventure of helping children in need.¬†This project was very much essential for the tsunami affected fisher’s village called Kotapuli, which is a nearby village to the world famous turistic place called Kanniyakumari of South India. The people of Kotapuli, Tirunelveli districht, Tamil Nadu, India, lost lost their houses, household materials, livelihood materials, etc. during the tusnami disaster still there is¬†no proper income because they didn‚Äôt go to their main business of catching fishes in the sea.

So most of the children, mainly girls of them are not going to school¬†to regularly to finish their education properly. For a month ago the cooperation between SIVA4KIDS Foundation¬†and the local NGO HELP of Kotapuli, started the first Pilot Project PC4KIDS Kotapuli to help 60 tsunami affected children (boys and girls). Now the results are here for your information’s.

The agreement between SIVA4KIDS.org and NGO HELP was to donate the computers and additional materials to start a vocational computer training centre which will benefit 60 children of this fisher’s village of South India. The first plan was to send 20 computers from Holland to South India but soon we realized that the cost of transporting of the goods will be double as much as if you would invest the half of the amount of the money to donate/invest on those mentioned materials on the budget.

As planned the NGO HELP started the project through the local community and city hall of the village which already donated a location for the computer training centre. HELP started the work together with specialists and local volunteers with the passion to realize something big after the tsunami. They did achieved something which were beyond their imagination. Inauguration Party

The inauguration party was well visited by the community of Kotapuli and surrounding communities also to join one of the biggest development projects which was realized through the help of a Foundation in Holland. Completed | Computer and library room in Sri Lanka

We are very happy to inform the latest news¬†regarding the Project Upgrade of Library and Computer room of Vishnu Maha Vidyalayam (School), Kalmunai, in Sri Lanka. These Projects which were¬†launched¬†by S4K¬†last year right after the building of Vishnu School was completed. Upgrading of the facilitation’s of Vishnu Maha Vidyalayam went through a time of elections and other social reasons where it played a major role of the little delay. But we are now very eager to inform specially our donors and volunteers who had put¬†all their trust, investment and efforts on these projects¬†really payed off at the end of how it was possible to play an important role of giving hope and positive changes on the 722 children in Ampara district, where the tsunami stroke most, in Sri lanka.

Due to the request of the principal of Vishnu Maha Vidyalaya School, SIVA4KIDS.org made the¬†following upgrade of the educational facilities¬†in¬†the Computer training center and furnishing of Library of Vishnu Maha Vidyalya School, Periyaneelavani, Kalmunai (Eastern province of Sri Lanka).

By achieving efficient results we are very happy to strengthen the trust and faith in SIVA4KIDS.org among our volunteers, supporters, companies¬†and organizations, who have been the step stones for SIVA4KIDS and for¬†these¬†positive results. We appreciate your¬†support and patient.
